Gleneagles is one of Scotland’s finest locations to host a birthday party and it was here that The Merton family gathered together to surprise and celebrate mum Sue's birthday, organised by Emma - Sue's daughter, by way of a champagne reception, a private cellar tour and an intimate family dinner.
Once the family had surprised Sue with a champagne reception in The Pantry they were all in for a treat as they were lead down into the cellars for their tour. Their Sommelier introduced them to the French tradition of 'Sabrage' - an exciting way to pop a champagne cork with a cavalry sword! They were then introduced to some of the cellar’s hidden gems and some of the rarest wines in the world whilst walking through the history of the cellar and it's fine treasures within the ambiance of this fabulous setting. Another real treat was seeing the priceless bottle of Korbel California champagne which was gifted to the hotel from George Bush at the 2005 G8 summit.
Seeing Sue's face light up as they walked back into the Broadcasting Room for their meal was a delight and hopefully her evening was an unforgettable experience at this glorious hotel.
